So, I forgot to mention in my last post that my story for this week is highlighting Rock Bridge Reaches Out teacher-sponsor Kathryn Fishman-Weaver. Rock Bridge Reaches Out is a community service club, broken into several core groups that focus on individual volunteering options such as: Stream Clean, bagging lunches at Ronald McDonald House and making fleece blankets for Project Linus.
Kathryn-Fishman Weaver started the club when she was a senior at Rock Bridge in 1999. Now, 13 years later she has returned to continue extending a helping hand.
The best thing about this story: all my sources are actually excited about it. I have students emailing me asking if I need extra help and Fishman-Weaver calls me just to check in. Usually sources are really difficult to get ahold of and a little cautious after hearing “Hi, I’m a reporter for the Columbia Missourian…” Sounds like this story will be smooth-sailing on the source side! Woohoo!
