I know this is my second post for today – but I’m a bit inspired. I just got off the phone with a co-president of Rock Bridge Reaches Out. I feel like I know a lot more about the program and am a bit more prepared for my in-person interview with Kathryn Fishman-Weaver, the teacher sponsor, tomorrow.
The weird thing is, interviews are the best part about journalism. I love writing, don’t get me wrong. But actually talking to people, finding out more about them – that’s what makes it real. As hectic as the Missourian has been so far, I enjoy the community beat because it makes us find normal people doing incredible things, who otherwise would never be noticed. I think the news should focus more on volunteers and people instead of violent crimes and political scandals. After all, sometimes we just need to show the quirky, positive side of our community.
